More than a century of closure technology
<p class="text-white">Tri-Sure<sup>®</sup> origins lie with Bernard Van Leer, a Dutch industrialist and philanthropist. In 1919, he started a packaging company in the Netherlands that developed into the world leader in the packaging industry. </p>
1921
<p class="text-gray-1200 text-base leading-relaxed">American Flange & Manufacturing Company was established as a family-owned business in Chicago, Illinois. Here, the Tri-Sure closure system was developed for steel drums which became the worldwide standard.</p>
1927
<p class="text-gray-1200 text-base leading-relaxed">Van Leer, an industrial and consumer packaging manufacturer established in 1919 in the Netherlands, becomes exclusive licensee of American Flange in Europe.</p>
1933
<p class="text-gray-1200 text-base leading-relaxed">The first Tri-Sure closure was produced in Amsterdam, Netherlands.</p>
1972
<p class="text-gray-1200 text-base leading-relaxed">A Tri-Sure facility was built in Rouen, France.</p>
1988
<p class="text-gray-1200 text-base leading-relaxed">Van Leer acquires Tri-Sure worldwide.</p>
1994
<p class="text-gray-1200 text-base leading-relaxed">A Tri-Sure facility opens in Araucaria, Brazil and introduction of the 4s® closure system.</p>
2001
<p class="text-gray-1200 text-base leading-relaxed">Greif acquires Tri-Sure as part of the acquisition of Van Leer Industrial.</p>
2013
<p class="text-gray-1200 text-base leading-relaxed">The paint and coating facility of Vreeland, Netherlands is now part of the Tri-Sure brand. It was established in 1963 by Van Leer to produce external paint for steel drums and in 1963 the first internal coating for steel drums was added, developing in 1998 the RDL® system which became a worldwide standard to consistently measure the coating performance and classification in steel drums.</p>
2014
<p class="text-gray-1200 text-base leading-relaxed">Tri-Sure facility was established in Zhenjiang, China.</p>
